I've decided to change things up a bit with my blog. If you follow me on Instagram or even Facebook you know I post much more frequently there than I do here. I want to make it a point to offer other kinds of food related content on here aside from just new recipes. You can continue to expect 1-2 blog posts per week, and if you want to see more content please click the Instagram or Facebook links underlined above and follow along there.
In my sorority, I am responsible for programming, which includes planning events. Specifically sisterhood events which are intended to give girls the opportunity to hangout in more of a social setting. Recently, I planned a "Galentines Day Breakfast" which was intended to be an outdoor picnic, but due to bad weather, we ended up pushing it back a week. Though this was Valentines Day themed, I've put together a shopping list you can follow for any kind of breakfast or lunch picnic and adjust the tableware and decor based on the occasion or to match a specific color palette. Luckily, my friend's mom owns a business where wooden pallets are used so I was able to borrow one to spread the food on. If you need to purchase one, Home Depot has a number of affordable options: Home Depot Wood Pallets.
Below I have included a shopping list which includes all the food (purchased from Trader Joe's) and decor pictured (almost all from TJ's). I also purchased a "Coffee Traveler" from Starbucks which has 96oz of coffee for $16.95.
What's on your grocery list? (Trader Joes-serves about 20 people)
- 1 package Plain Bagels ($1.99)
- 1 package Sprouted Wheat Sesame Bagels or other "flavored" bagels ($2.29)
- 1 package Loaf Croissant Cinnamon Bread ($5.99)
- 1-2 Cinnamon Coffee Cakes ($3.99 each)
- 1 Package Pain Au Chocolait Chocolate Chip ($2.99) (I would sub this with something else, personally wasn't a huge fan)
- 2 containers Whipped Cream Cheese ($1.99 each)
- 1 jar Organic Raspberry Fruit Spread ($2.99)
- 2 Mangos ($1.79 each)
- 2 Oranges ($0.79 each)
- 3 Kiwis ($0.49 each)
- 2 Honeycrisp Apples ($1.29 each)
- 3 Granny Smith Apples ($0.69 each)
- Red Seedless Grapes ($5.49)
- Orange Peach Mango Juice ($2.99)
What's on your shopping list? (Party City)
- 2 White Plastic Rectangular Platters 11 in x 18 in ($3.99 each)
- 1 White Plastic Rectangular Platter 9 1/4 in x 14 1/4 in ($2.99)
- Silver Trimmed White Plastic Platter 16 in ($3.99)
- Key to your Heart Valentines Day Lunch Plates ($2.30 per 8 plates, I overbought and looking back would have bought 3 packages)
- Red Premium Plastic Forks 20 count ($2.69)
- Red Premium Plastic Knives 20 count ($2.69)
- Pink Plastic Cups 50 count 12 oz ($6.99 and had so many leftover)
- Pink Beverage Napkins 50 count ($2.99 and so many leftover)
- 10 Heart Valentines Day Crazy Straws ($0.49/each but now onsale for $0.12/each)
To add a little bit more decoration, I ordered these red heart balloons from Amazon and got them filled up at my local grocery store, Ralphs. Unfortunately, they make you pay for the balloons as if you purchased them there so these were the most costly aspect of the breakfast. I know most dollar stores sell the heart balloons around Valentines Day and likely sell other seasonal balloons for a much more affordable price. I would recommend visiting your local dollar store or calling to see what their selection is. I also scattered TJ's X's and O's Gummies in a couple of ramekans around the table in order to add some more Valentine's spirit, you could easily replace these gummies with whatever candy or color fits your theme.
Let me know what you think about these kind of blog posts in addition to my recipe posts!
